1940 U. S. Population Census Indexing
The Castle Rock Genealogical Society joined forces with genealogy societies and organizations around the country as part of the 1940 U.S. Census Community Project. The initiative created a free online searchable name index of the 1940 U.S. Federal Census after images of the census were released to the public in April 2012. This online index will be free forever, offering family history researchers a rich genealogical data set for their ongoing use. The index created by the project allows the public to easily search every person found in the census and view digital images of the original census pages where he or she is listed. The highly anticipated 1940 U.S. Census was the most popular U.S. record collection released to date. The census images and index are now available on the following websites: Archives.com, FindMyPast.com, National Archives, ProQuest, and FamilySearch.org.
CRCGS volunteers indexed over 16,000 names on the 1940 census while participating in this project.
